Tis the season!

December 2015

Over the past week we’ve had two groups get into the Christmas spirit, raising their voices to fundraise for EVC Uganda.

Students and chaplains from Newcastle University Catholic Chaplaincy generously gave up their time last Tuesday (15th December, 2015) to sing carols outside the Newcastle University student union. Everyone’s voices sounded lovely, with some cracking harmonies and for a relatively small group of singers they sounded very full! Students also baked wonderful cakes, adding to what the stall could offer (enticing people to donate if their singing wasn't doing the job!). Many of the students helped fundraise further via participating in a raffle at the Catholic Chaplaincy. Much of the fundraising at the Catholic Chaplaincy was driven by chaplain Mia Fox, and the amount of students who got involved thanks to her was astounding. They raised double the amount from last year (doing the same events) and had more people participating this year, so we really are thoroughly overwhelmed with the input and results from this year.

Members and friends of EVC Uganda also kindly dedicated time last Saturday (19th December, 2015) and sang outside Budgens in Sandy, Bedfordshire. Many of the carollers were from the Holy Child and St Joseph’s parish (Midland Road, Bedford) and are part of the ‘AMDG’ music group. The talented musicians sang a mixture of traditional carols as well as popular Christmas songs acapella and with guitar accompaniment. Their musical Christmas cheer did not go unnoticed and a local DJ recorded a few songs to be played on the local radio station on Christmas day!

Over £500 was raised in total from both events, and we are absolutely thrilled with this result!

Both groups are an embodiment of charity and good will, emphasised this time of year. EVC Uganda would like to say a huge thank you to all who got involved, supporting the charity. We are extremely grateful for collective fundraising like this and are so grateful and touched by each person's input.

How can you help?

It costs £300 to sponsor a child ( £25 monthly standing order ) This provides a child with an education, accommodation, clothing and food and pays teaching and non teaching staff. You can also donate securely through KindLink.
