2018 in Review: Our Chairman's Report

As the new year is shortly upon us, Ted, EVC's chairman, writes an end of year message to the supporters of EVC Uganda. He summarises the success of the charity during this past year and expresses his gratitude to all who made this happen.
Dear donors, volunteers and supporters,
2018 has seen EVC develop awareness of its work far beyond Bedford where we began, primarily through our highly successful church appeals programme where we have been very warmly welcomed and supported financially by many parishes within London and the Home Counties. Many new child sponsors have emerged from the appeals and new friends have been made in support of EVC.
Over 210 children are now supported in education through individual child sponsorship from a base of 26 when we started. Interest in our work continues to grow significantly, with new child sponsors joining regularly. We now have a new, professional EVC School Report Template which provides child sponsors with key educational information relating to their child’s educational progress.
Gordon Lland (Vice Chairman) and his wife Phyllis visited the Projects in Uganda in order to assess progress made. Highlights were that the work on the Girls’ Dormitory at one of our EVC schools had been completed and also a water borehole for clean water had been installed at the school. St Joseph’s Church in Bedford had provided much funding for the latter.
The annual EVC Concert took place in September which was a great success and raised just under £2,000, with the numbers attending continuing to increase.
The EVC website continues to present a highly professional image and resource for the charity and is regularly updated and developed.
This year we welcomed 3 new trustees who provide us with increased professional expertise: Andy Hunt (Business Management & Development), Neil Yeomans (Finance & Fundraising) and Jenny Hall (Education & Networking).
Our running costs remain very low as we continue to be managed entirely by volunteers and have no paid staff. As before, all money given towards child sponsorship and projects goes directly there and admin costs are raised in other ways.
On behalf of EVC, I wish to thank all our donors, volunteers and trustees for all their hard work and generous support. The charity is now a substantial enterprise, supporting some of the poorest children in the world and goes forward into 2019 with great optimism as we seek to further develop the work successfully.
