Chairman's Covid update on School Closures

August 2021

On 30th July, the President of Uganda announced that due to the increase in cases of Corona Virus, schools in Uganda will remain closed for the foreseeable future. He stated that until there has been a sufficient roll out of vaccine within the population they will not reopen.

Consequently, outreach education to our sponsored children is needing to continue. Teaching materials have been bought and teachers, local to groups of our children, are being appointed to teach and deliver work to children individually, to mark it and then have further input with them. This is essential in order maintain what is vital education for the children and, at the present time, is a major priority for EVC.

As many of our children have been at home for much of the last 18 months, many families are struggling to make sure that their children are well fed. Consequently, EVC, is also in the process of organising the delivery of necessary food to each of sponsored children.

Please remember Uganda and our children in your prayers :

  • that the roll out of vaccine will gather pace and that many, including those in outlying districts, will receive it
  • that schools will reopen as soon as is it is safe to do so
  • that our children will receive the food they need and be kept safe and well
  • for an enthusiasm and eagerness to learn to be maintained among our children
  • that parents, many of whom are uneducated, will see the difference being in school has made to their children, particularly as many of our older children take initiative in finding ways to generate an income to help support their families.

‘And it is He who will supply all your needs from His riches in glory, because of what Christ Jesus has done for us’. Philippians 4:19 Living Bible
