Blog Series Part 3: Uganda Visit 2022 (4th July)
July 2022
This morning Neil, Judi and Ted had a second meeting with Gonzaga to look mostly at individual children’s accounts and how sponsorship money and expenses are recorded. As there was time left before lunch, Judi and Gonzaga sorted clothing which had been donated by people in the UK for the school children and, also for women in the community.
After lunch, the three headed off with Father Boniface and Gonzaga for two meetings, the first with the staff to thank them for their hard work and to communicate EVC’s support, to work together with them to create a school where excellent standards are achieved. It was felt by the staff that the performance of the school, at present, is in the middle range of schools. To the question, ‘What will it take to move the school into the top range?” there were several very pertinent points. The staff were assured that all their ideas would be considered and costs of implementing them looked at before plans are made for the way forward.
Afterwards, in a meeting with Denis, the headteacher, further questions were covered in order to clarify the roles of the teaching staff, predicted grades for students in Primary 7 sitting the Primary Leaving Exam and the likely number of children in Primary 7 next academic year.
