Blog Series Part 6: Uganda Visit 2022 (7th July)
July 2022
This morning saw us head into Masaka for a meeting with the Director of Caritas for the Masaka District, to explain about our work, to hear about the work Caritas is involved in and, to see if there are areas where our work overlaps and we may therefore be able to partner together.
Caritas in this area is involved in overseeing the development of buildings and, also, in identifying vulnerable children who need help to access education and whose families may also need help, in order to better care for their children. Many of their staff involved in this are out in the villages and are gathering relevant information and surveying what is needed. This may be a possible area where information can be shared and where we may be able to help in getting children into school.
It was agreed that during the next 6 weeks the Director would gather data about the number of children with disabilities in the area, needing to access education and, that Ted would use this information to
formulate funding proposals for financial support here from organisations who fund this kind of work. This would include special needs teachers, access needs and other supportive equipment. After the meeting finished, we visited the Archbishop Secondary School, which is a technical institute, where four of our sponsored children are studying,
three studying automotive mechanics and one Fashion and Design. Judi and Ted were particularly glad to see Innocent, one of their sponsored children
and, to pass on gifts sent by sponsors.
In the afternoon the Bishop of Maska, our Patron, visited the compound to hear about our work and to discuss ways in which he can assist as we move
forward. Afterwards, everyone drove to St Matia Mulumba so that the Bishop could see the children and the school. There was a wonderful presentation of dance and singing, before the Bishop visited the new buildings – a great way to finish the day.
