Barcelona Marathon 2023
March 2023
I am very proud to say that I competed the Barcelona Marathon on Sunday 19th March 2023 in a time of 4 hours 45 minutes.
It was the culmination of 16 weeks hard training around the streets of Bedford and the local countryside. Many thanks to all my running friends for their encouragement and company.
The starting arch, as you would expect, belted out Queen’s Barcelona and had a formidable opera singer. Also lots of flames shooting up into the air. Quite an inspiring start.
The streets were really packed in the centre of the city with many drumming bands for atmosphere and encouragement. The weather was just perfect for running. A coolish start and dry with the sun coming out about 10.30am.
The last 6 miles were really tough as you can see from the pain on everyone’s face in the photos. It was a matter of absolute endurance and longing for the finish line.
I am also delighted to say that to date we have raised in sponsorship of the race approximately £1,700 which is being magnificently match funded to twice that amount by one of our donors.
It’s still not too late to donate and the giving page will remain open for another 2 weeks - you can donate by clicking on my donate page here: https://www.kindlink.com/fundraising/empowering-vulnerable-children--evc--uganda-/gordonsmarathon?fbclid=IwAR0fSRA_FCpPzf6EfOOJ0vVTu5wi-QxJgDF7B-GF5E9UOUSjGs6HR4Wd3z8
The training and preparation helped immeasurably in running this long distance and assisted greatly in recovery time. No injuries to report, only a few tight quads and calves at the end.
