Work begins on a new nursery building for St Matia Mulumba Primary School

February 2024

After days of heavy rain, work has begun on levelling the site.

Through a large and generous donation, construction has started on a new nursery building for 100 pre-school children.

The existing nursery building, seen in the background, is very run down with a dusty concrete floor, the roof leaks and the walls are crumbling. The children, ranging in ages from 3 to 6 years old, sit in rows of wooden benches and have virtually no toys, games or educational stimuli.

The new building will have 5 purpose-built classrooms and a small dining room and kitchen.

The nursery teachers are very enthusiastic about this new facility and are already planning layouts and facilities for internal classrooms and outdoor play areas.

The nursery will be secure and will have colourful murals on the outside walls which will be visible from the main road, making it a superb advertisement and attraction for the school.

Project completion is scheduled for the end of this year with the children able to move in to their brand new facility for the new term starting in February 2025.

How can you help?

It costs £300 to sponsor a child ( £25 monthly standing order ) This provides a child with an education, accommodation, clothing and food and pays teaching and non teaching staff. You can also donate securely through KindLink.
